I had to delete my partition and set up anew. What should the network device settings be? I use both an ethernet as well as a wifi connection. I have tried NAT and bridged adapter ethernet andbridged adapter wifi, I can't connect yet.

you posted no host or guest info. however, if your host can connect to the internet then if the guest is set to NAT or Bridged it will connect also.

Sorry about that. Using current version of V Box, 4.3.18, windows XP 32 bit. My Mac is on Yosemite and is connected via both wifi and ethernet. I tried both nat and bridged adapter settings, but it still won't connect while in windows.

Is this a newly installed XP guest or one you were using before? and can you attach a compressed vbox.log for the guest?

Essentially new. I had to delete prior one as it had many problems. Also, I just noted that my attention pack was not installed properly. I just did that but it is still not working.

I am getting an error message:

The extension is not allowed.


When I try to attach the log file.

My device manager reflects that the ethernet controller driver is missing. I cannot connect to the internet and it is not finding it on the windows XP installation disc.

Reinstalling extensions did not fix. I searched the windows XP install disc for the missing Ethernet controller driver, but it was not found. I am not sure what to try next. Using the bridged adapter wifi network setting in Vbox also didn't connect. The Mac OS currently connects both with the Ethernet and the wifi.

Any help appreciated.

Set the guest to use AMD PCNet FAST III (Am79C973, the default) in the guest settings. XP has that by default and should not require anything extra installed. Well that is if this is an official Windows install media anyway.

I cannot activate because my "O" and "0" keys don't work. When I click on them nothing happens. I have never seen this before. It only happens while trying to activate windows trying to type the code into the boxes.

Because it is the default setting when you create the guest. These are set for a reason and should not be changed unless you know what you are doing.

I have no idea why this is happening to you, but I have read about an issue with AltGr not working for some.

I didn't notify that setting, don't know how it was set to something different.

As far as the windows activation. Not sure how/why the 0 keys weren't working, but I was able to outsmart it by typing the code into a notepad and then cutting and pasting it. I got it to work and am now reinstalling all of my software.
