VirtualBox stopping on it's own

Post by Docfxit »

Why is VirtualBox stopping on it's own?

I'm trying to run this as a service.

It runs fine when it isn't run as a service.

Host: Win7 sp1 64bit
Guest: XP

Thank you,

VirtualBox was not designed to actually run as a service. It is user-land based therefore not supported.
There is a group of user that is working on this and I see you found them already. If you are having issues with their application you should contact them.

Thanks for the reply...

I'm not using that program because it runs headless and I'm trying to get it running seamless.

I will try to contact them to see if they may have an ideas as to why I can't get VirtualBox to stay running in a service. Although I don't know if anyone is monitoring that thread because they haven't answered my other posts.

I am trying to get it running in a service with a program called AlwaysUp. It will restart itself if it crashes for any reason.

Thanks,

Well VirtualBox is more than just an application that you can run like that, but the place to ask would be AlwaysUp. Keep in mind this as well is not supported.

I figured out that VirtualBox was stopping on it's own because VirtualBox was running as a service with the same VM.
With Process Explorer I found that VBoxSVC.exe was running as a service.

What I did to resolve the issue was:

I had to install VBoxVmService software first. Then I uninstalled VBoxVmService the service with this command:
VmServiceControl.exe -u [ENTER]
That stopped the auto run of VBoxTray.exe and VBoxSVC.exe at boot time.
Then I uninstalled the VBoxVmService software.
On the next Re-boot it didn't auto run.

Then VirtualBox ran like it should.

Thanks,
