I'm not sure but, it failed a few times on both a Linux and Mac host. Had no problem at all with the 64bit version. I'm trying the 32 bit version again now. A new problem emerged. It seemed confused about my keyboard layout. the @ symbol printed as ". I had to reinstall the guest.sunlover wrote:loukingjr, this is for both 32 and 64 bit versions of W10.
Not sure why GA installation on W10 32 bit did not work for you. I had no problems with two W10 32 bit VMs.
[Solved] 4.3.18 GA won't install to Windows 10 TP.

Re: 4.3.18 GA won't install to Windows 10 TP.
I figured out what the problem was. The 32bit version doesn't like more than one core assigned. The 64bit version works fine with two.

Re: SOLVED: 4.3.18 GA won't install to Windows 10 TP.
For now I have switched to 64b. If we deploy it here for real, that's what we'll be using, anyway.
I did have the 3D issue but I probably did not uninstall and reboot, that may have been my issue w/ the 32b

Re: 4.3.18 GA won't install to Windows 10 TP.
Right, W10 32 bit has problems with 2 or more virtual CPUs assigned. It hangs when it tries to reboot during installation. A fix for this will be available in the next VBox 4.3.x update.loukingjr wrote:I figured out what the problem was. The 32bit version doesn't like more than one core assigned. Re: SOLVED: 4.3.18 GA won't install to Windows 10 TP.
No problem with Windows 10 GA on my desktop computer, but on a Lenovo U330 laptop the installation of the graphics driver blanks the screen.
Have tried to change resolution to 800x600, updated the Intel graphic driver, updated Windows 10 to built 9860 - and more.
Only difference is the GA now can install without 3D, but the graphic driver is flagged as incompatible. Still cannot have the screen filled in FullScale mode without GA.

I think there is a problem with that file. The installer can't open it. I got GA to install with a different GA file. One that is dated earlier then one that virtual box naturally uses.

@dsherman
Start the guest and at the top click on machine and then session information. What version does it say is installed?
Or you could post the guests log file ( as an attachment )

That's not what I asked. I want to know what VirtualBox shows as installed. Plus I don't have all day to spend looking up your previous postsdsherman wrote:I posted what I did with what files in my post how I got GA to work. It's all there

@Perryg
I realize that you don't have time to look up posts. Just as I already wrote everything in my post which btw is like 7 posts down from this one. And it is all explained there. I know we are all busy. If what I did works great, if what I did does not work for other people on their systems then so b e it. I am just trying to help others here.

Unless what you think helped you was a red herring and it actually causes other users problems. Why are you refusing the proof? Its simple, just post the guests log file as an attachment.dsherman wrote:@Perryg

I do not believe that what I did is a red herring. Was able to install on my AMD desktop box and a i7 Laptop. Doing the same thing each time. Perry the GA that is installed is 4.3.18 just as if the current GA that virtualbox naturally uses. The only difference is that the one I used allows the installer to open the file.. I posted my log btw in my thread..

Re: SOLVED: 4.3.18 GA won't install to Windows 10 TP.
@dsherman,
But your "tip" to install an older GAs is all wrong. In fact even though you say you installed 4.3.8_RC1 your actual additions are 4.3.18. There is your red herring.
I do appreciate it that you want to help but you must make sure that what you post is accurate to keep other users from making a big mistake. Also posting and saying look up my post is not the way to help. Few users will know what to do or take the time to hunt down you helpful tips. Post a link to the original post at the very least.
As for myself I don't just reside in the Windows host or Windows guest section of the forum. I have to search the entire forum and that takes precious time which can be better spent answering users questions. So please when asked to provide something do so and if there are any side issues they can be dealt with, corrected, or made clearer.

Re: SOLVED: 4.3.18 GA won't install to Windows 10 TP.
perry how can you say its all wrong as it works. I somehow thought that as a moderator you of all people would work towards solutions whether they come from you or others. I realize that the file loads the correct GA's I didn't say that it didn't. I just found a file that would open the correct virtualbox video drivers and actually install. How is that wrong. Because the GA's that come with the virtualbox 4.3.18 install doesn't work. Finding one that does seems to me what these forums are for or have you forgotten that. So that others can have success in their VM's.
This is what I did Perry
My solution was to go here http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/ and download 4.3.8_RC1/. http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.3.8_RC1/. I know that may be weird but I was willing to try anything to get it to read the correct install file. When loading the GA iso into the settings I used that file to run on. Opened Windows 10 TP VM and clicked on the install Guest Additions CD. Opened it in the VM and ran the GA VboxWindowsAdditions-amd64 as administrator. Oddly when this opened to the installer it was in fact installing GA's 4.3.18! All files were installed..
Go ahead and lets see how many others can have some success.
