Long time no see!!
I tried to upgrade my version 4.3.10 to the newest and it ended up destroying all of my .vdis. and I had to do a system restore to get everything back. Can someone tell me what is the right way to upgrade to the newest vbox?
Thanks

Re: Upgrad Vbox
Can you elaborate on that one a little bit more? What do you mean "destroyed"? Upgrading your image processing program does not destroy your pictures, same with VirtualBox. I've never heard of upgrading actually losing data.elcajongunsfan wrote:it ended up destroying all of my .vdis
As for the upgrade process, most of the people prefer to do it in place, some prefer to uninstall the previous version and then install the new one. Either way (usually) it doesn't matter.

Re: Upgrade Vbox
Everything was gone. And I just did a sys restore. All I want to know is if there is a correct way of upgrading.
I haven't been around here in awhile and I see the USB issue is still problematic.
Thanks

Re: Upgrad Vbox
What was the previous version? Normally I simply run the upgrade, but I usually do an uninstall first if it is a major upgrade like 4.2 to 4.3 . I also make sure that the guests are shut down, not saved, in that case.
If you have lost your .vdi files it will not be caused by a VirtualBox upgrade. VirtualBox is simply a program running under the Windows OS. Upgrading the program cannot delete anything except the previous version of VirtualBox. Deleting or upgrading a program will not and cannot delete data files.

Re: Upgrad Vbox
I think that what the OP is meaning is that once installing the new version the guests failed to run ( not destroyed ) because they would never be recoverable if they were. Using the system recovery of the host just takes it back in time to where the host was running properly. So the real response is you need to read the following topics.

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=64111
The actual installation is to use run as admin upon installing.
