activated the setting - started vm - still msg waiting for network config..
still same result - no ip-address for eth0/1

1) You now have a working host-only adapter on the host.
2) your guest can now see both of the adapters.
Your problem now resides in the guest. This will make troubleshooting remotely difficult. I would install another guest and leave the settings set to default. Then see if the default NAT will allow the guest to see the Internet. If so then you can add the host-only as a second adapter and see if it then allows the guest to see the host. Do it in that order and report back what you find.

downloaded a new guest ubuntu
all defaults : nat
started the guest and internet is ok - upgrading the guest
defined host only - all ok
I just need to install again perl-dbd-dbi-db2....
