Guest addition driver issues on Win 7 x86

I've had this issue for a while now and have searched the forums off and on. Hopefully I just missed it.
The issue is that when I upgrade the Guest Additions from 4.2.16r86992
to any later version, such as 4.3.18r96516, the system hangs on reboot and the display appears as shown in the link/attachment.
It only occurs on Win 7 x86 clients, including brand new ones that I load from scratch.
I do not have the option to revert my host back to 4.2.16.
Any thoughts?

You chose "Windows Hosts" for your post, but this forum is not relevant to your question. Moving this topic to "Windows Guests".
I don't recall that anyone else has raised this issue - if you have 3D acceleration enabled then it could be caused by host graphics drivers that could do with an update. You can also revert the GAs back to 4.3.12 (unlike the extension pack, there is no requirement that the GAs version matches the host - I only update the GAs when I have a specific problem).

Thanks for moving the post to the correct forum!
I do not have 3D acceleration enabled on the Win 7 Pro x86 guest. My host is currently my workstation which has a NVidia GeForce GTX 660 graphics card running a driver from 9/13/14 v9.18.13.4411. This has been going on for months now (April/May 2014).
The only reason I wanted to upgrade the GA software is because I cannot dynamically resize the guest OS window screen. The window itself expands but the guest resolution does not change.
Thanks!
