I've set up a virtualbox with the following media:
1. DVD drive with Windows 7 repair disc mounted (.ISO)
2. DVD drive with windows 7 repair image mounted (.ISO), created with Windows system restore
3. Hard drive (VDI), 12GB
4. Hard drive (VDI), 250GB
All combinations of IDE/SATA have been tried.
I'm trying to accomplish the following:
- Boot from Windows system repair disc (1.)
- Copy contents of 2. (WindowsImageBackup folder) to 3., to have the repair image on a hard drive (is needed, as restoring from the DVD (2.) gives an error message
- Restore Windows image from 3. to 4.
The problem I'm facing: hard drives 3. and 4. are not mounting in Windows system restore (no drive letters are assigned). The drives can be selected in the 'Exclude Disks' dialog however, but no drives available from the command line.
I tried to workaround the problem by creating a VDI from the .ISO image (2.), using VBoxMAnage, but unfortunately the contents are not available in that VDI.
Strangely enough, this whole approach has worked before just days ago, but I can't reproduce it anymore. Is there a combination of IDE/SATA, master/slave or drive number that I should use? Or any other ways to mount the drives (I've had no luck using mountvol from the command line).
