SB16 on Windows XP sp3 guest (host=w7 64bit)

Hello,
How can I get Sound Blaster 16 emulated on windows XPsp3 guest? (Host=windows 7 64bit)
The Intel(r) 82801AA AC97 audio controller is working in general but not with Cakewalk Sonar (audio sequencer).
SB16 emulation is working with Sonar (in Windows XP mode) but I prefer virtualbox which is lighter and more steady imho.
(Info: Sonar 6 is crashing on w7, -needs xp-, and later versions are too heavy!)

Seems like an obvious thing to try but how about switching the audio controller from "ICH AC97" to "SoundBlaster 16" in the audio settings for the guest?
