VBoxStartup.log spam on opengl32.dll loads

Post by Someone4746 »

The "VBoxStartup.log" log file since when 3D acceleration is enabled, seems to be spammed with entries like this:

Code: Select all

20cc.2870: supR3HardenedMonitor_LdrLoadDll: 'OPENGL32' -> 'C:\Windows\system32\OPENGL32.dll' [rcNt=0xc0150008]
20cc.2870: supR3HardenedScreenImage/LdrLoadDll: cache hit (VINF_SUCCESS) on \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\System32\opengl32.dll
20cc.2870: supR3HardenedMonitor_LdrLoadDll: pName=C:\Windows\system32\OPENGL32.dll *pfFlags=0x0 pwszSearchPath=0000000035329da0:C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox;C:\Windows\system32 [calling]
20cc.2870: supR3HardenedMonitor_LdrLoadDll: returns rcNt=0x0 hMod=000007fef3b60000 'C:\Windows\system32\OPENGL32.dll'
Guess whatever code does the 3D acceleration is calling LoadLibrary("OPENGL32") a lot.

The log grows very fast to the point I'm afraid exteneded use can create gigabytes of log entries.

This log messages really need to be squelched somehow.

If there is any workaround to silence them for now, I would be grateful.

Thanks for the report. I wasn't aware that opengl32.dll would be reloaded that much, I'd only observed it being loaded for every entry point being resolved during 3D initialization, but then going relatively quite afterwards. The log is capped at 128MB, which is quite large and it doesn't take too many VMs to eat up lots of disk space.

I'll shut up the message just like I've done with recurring error messages (for unsigned hook DLLs mostly). I'll post a build later in the week that includes this improvement.

I'm running a Win10 64-bit VM on a Win7 64-bit host using VirtualBox 4.3.30.

I'm seeing similar spam in my VBoxStartup.log. About 100 lines per second are added as I move my cursor over Win10's taskbar and File Explorer:
c20.420: supR3HardenedMonitor_LdrLoadDll: returns rcNt=0x0 hMod=000007fef0dc0000 'C:\Windows\system32\OPENGL32.dll'

That seems weird to me. The Windows desktop and mouse causing OpenGL activity?

I'm not seeing a ticket number, which makes it difficult to track whether this problem was ever fixed.
