i am running windows 10 on VirtualBox
i would like to know if there is any way of increasing the size of the actual desktop?
Please assist.
It is quite small area and seems a lot of "wastage" of space

I haven't found a way yet.
it's because you can't install the guest additions.
Well they sort of start to install and get left half installed and you then can't uninstall either.
If you use compatibility mode to trick them into installing they just crash.

You can not add the guest additions. You need to use VBoxManage.exe setextradata "VM-Name" CustomVideoMode1 1920x1200x32.
Of course you replace the appropriate values and names to fit your environment.

Thanks. I tried to open vboxmanager.exe, but it wont open
see a black screen which instantly disappears

Where did you try to run it? vboxmanage (not manager) runs in the host OS.
In Windows you must be in the directory which contains the program.
