Dock/undock laptop w/ external monitor aborts VirtualBox

I filed a bug report on this: https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/13466

Basically, if I dock or undock my laptop with VirtualBox running, it aborts with a memory access fault. My docking station has an external monitor connected to it. This happens both on the HP laptop dock at work and a USB3 dock at home.

My VBox version is 4.3.16. The host system is Windows 7 64-bit. The Linux guest is Mint 17.

Just wonder if anyone else has seen this issue and could share a workaround.
