Windows 7 can't access Internet

Post by nikitheone »

Hello all,

I've tried to find the solution to the problem here and by googling for few days now, but can't seem to find. I'll try my luck here.

I have on Ubuntu host running Windows 7, but can't connect to internet. I've installed all the guest addition, under network settings it's connected through bridget adapter, eth0c pcnet and so on. Windows can't find any drivers and any network. Any suggestions?

The default adapter for Windows-7 is Intel PRO/1000MT Desktop (82540EM)

Change to the default and then boot the guest. If Bridged does not work then you need to troubleshoot the reason. Use a packet sniffer like wireshark to see where it fails. Typical problems are firewall settings and Wireless APs.

By default You mean NAT?
I have options of NAT, NAT network, Bridget Adapter, Internal network, Host-only adapter and Generic driver

NAT should just work. But no I was talking about the Bridged adapter. You said you have changed it to the PCNet one and Windows 7 does not have drivers for that. If you change it back to the default Inter PRO/1000 MT desktop which Windows 7 has the drivers for it should work. If not then you need to find out why. Usually it is due to users adjusting the default settings and address schemes or firewall issues, but can also be because of an AP that does not support Bridged.

I've tried with NAT, it's not working also -"No connections are available".

I can't changed the adapter type, that's the problem.

any other ideas?

e: btw, I had everything running few weeks ago, but needed to increase the size of virtualbox. Bridged adapter worked last time.

Why can't you change the adapter type? All you need to do is shut the guest down just like on metal.

Oh, i just tried to turn off from virtualbox (send a shut down signal), but it didn't work. When I shut it down in Virtualbox, I could change it. Now it's okay, but still doesn't connect to wireless. So, what's my next moves?

From the hosts terminal/command window type VBoxManage showvminfo <VM Name> --details and post here. Replace <VM Name> with the actual name of the VM. Use " " if the name has a space in it.

Note if the host is Windows you need to be in the directory that has VBoxManage.exe for the command to work.

as well as

Post the guests log file ( as an attachment )
