Problems with display modes

I am hosting Ubuntu 12.04 on a Windows 7 machine via VB 4.3.10. I have used the same VM for the past year. Suddenly the display no longer resizes and I can't choose seamless mode. This was never a problem before. Instead I've got a tiny window in the middle of my display that is impossible to work with, and the right side and bottoms are cut off of everything.
Any idea about what is going on, and how to fix it?

re-install the guest additions ( in the guest )

Already did so: install program removed previous install and re-installed without a hitch - but it still doesn't work!

Post the guests log file ( as an attachment )

Not sure if these are the correct files, please let me know if they are not.
Noticed this also when I powered up (went by very fast, so it was really hard to catch):
. . . SMBus base address uninitialized. Upgrade BIOS or use force_addr=0xaddr
(???)

Nope.
Right click on the guest in the main manager and then click on show log. Save and post as an attachment

BTW, the uninitialized SMBus error doesn't come up anymore after I applied a fix.

Really. What fix was that?
Is auto resize still enabled on the guest?

Log shows that you do not have the guest additions installed.

This was fix for the SMBus base address not initialized:
sudo vi /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Add the line blacklist i2c_piix4 to the end of the file and save
sudo update-initramfs -u -k all
Now it boots up without that error.
Thats really odd: the terminal gave me some kind of 'successfully installed' message and told me to press return . . .
One of the problems I'me having is that I can't auto resize guest: option is greyed out.
Could the problem be that I didn't restart the VM properly after the install? It said to restart the VM, but I wasn't sure which option to select: Rest, Shutdown, Close (with/without Save State, power off . . . )?

I can't say. All I know is they are not installed now.

Oh and the smbus warning was just that. A warning and not an error. This happens because it is not on metal and has no effect in a virtual environment.

Sorry about the poor wording. I realized that SMBus was just cosmetic after doing some reading up. Reason makes sense: system thinks it's real after all. Now, not even annoying . . .
Great news! Tried re-installing again and was successful.
Oddly, terminal feedback was exactly the same as before (attaching file).
Knew it worked (even before restart), because when I saved terminal output to shared folder, it was there on the other side immediately.
Now I have access to all options again, although I still don't know why they 'went away' or why they finally came back (after a couple of apparently unsuccessful re-installs).
Am attaching log file.
Really hope this doesn't keep on happening!
