I installed VirtualBox 4.3.16 on a Win 7X64 host in order to get a look at the preview for Windows 10. As soon as I installed VB I was no longer able to see my Plex server on my LG LN5700 TV. Plex showed up in all IOS devices, and all of the computers on the LAN continued to show in smart share on the TV. The only change was, Plex no longer was an option for the TV. It didn't matter if VB was running or not, just having it installed removed Plex from the TV. When I installed VB I just took the default options at every choice. This isn't a work thing, I just wanted to get a look at Win 10 and would like to continue poking around at it through development, but I'd also like to watch some tube as well from time to time.

I wrote LG and received this brilliant piece of advice; "remove Virtual Box from your computer." Thanks, why didn't I think of that. Though I was hoping for some direction in how to run the two apps on the same computer.

Has anybody else run into anything like this? Any ideas for a work around? I've seen a few pages about folks using a virtual media server, but nothing on point in just trying to run both apps together. The Version of Plex is 0.9.9.14.5317eef8c6 which should be fairly recent, I only started using it a month ago or so. (seriously, they need a version number like that)

I run PLEX on my PC and have for a long time. Never had an issue with it and VBox playing well together. I suspect you may have an issue with Windows though. Many have found that they needed to remove the host-only adapter from VirtualBox due to the way Windows handles network attachments. So either install without the host-only network mode or remove it and reboot the PC and see if that helps.

For laughs, this is the reply I received from LG when I asked them more specifically about how I could solve the problem while keeping VB on the host.

" Unfortunately this is the way the TV was designed and there’s really not much we can do about it.
I have, however, forwarded your question to factory so they take it into consideration for a possible software update that may fix this."

Nope, that didn't do it. I reinstalled VB without the host only adaptor and had the same issue. After installing VB, Plex was available on all my IOS devices, just not the TV. I didn't even build a machine, I just installed VB on the host. I think this is something weird that is limited between VB and LG Smart Share because there isn't anything about VB messing with Plex in this manner anywhere on the web.

I have a simple work around, I'll install VB on my laptop. It's really not that important to me in the long run, this isn't a work thing, it's a hobby and evaluation thing to keep looking at 10 before it's released.

Really. I wonder what LG is doing that it gets all weirded out when VirtualBox is installed. Oh well, I don't do Windows ( pun intended ) so I will leave it to those that do.
