Logitech c310 USB webcam not working
Posted: 3. Oct 2014, 04:40
I recently switched OS on my host system from Windows 7 to openSUSE 13.1. I have VirtualBox running a virtual Windows Vista x64 system on openSUSE for things that are presently Windows-only, like my Logitech c310 USB webcam. I can't get it to work on my Windows guest.
The device and software worked perfectly when I ran Windows 7 (not virtualized). When I enter 'lsusb' on my openSUSE host, I see 'Bus 003 Device 006: ID 046d:081b Logitech, Inc. Webcam C310'. When I look at USB devices in VirtualBox (yes, Guest Additions are installed), I see a device with a matching ID from the host's 'lsusb' command.
After I check the box for this device, I hear the chime in my Windows guest that means it sees a new USB device. I install the Logitech client software. It installs fine, but at the end, it reports that I have no webcam. When I look in device manager, the camera shows up with the correct model information. Windows reports that it can't start, though. FWIW, I also tried this on a Windows XP (32-bit) guest and had the exact same problem. I am running the latest release of VirtualBox.
I've seen this problem (USB webcam not working in VBox guest) reported a large number of times. I haven't seen any good answers though, so I am hoping that one of you has one in you.
Thank you in advance for any pearls of wisdom!
