Windows 10 installation

Post by Jacobe44 »

I try to install Windows 10 Technical Preview in the latest VirtualBox running on Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64-bit on a computer with Core i7 Hashwell processor ang 16 GB of RAM. The installation halts after a short while only showing the Blue Window and no text whatsover. What settings in VirtualBox do I have to change in order the installation to proceed?

I don't know if it's necessary but I attached the install .iso to a pre-existing Windows 8.1 guest and installed it that way.

I put a post under "Windows Hosts" forum with details, but I've not had any problem installing and running W10 on W7U64 using latest vBox and only the .iso for install, took all defaults, enabled PAE, set OS type (first step after 'new') to W8.1 64.

I also changed default browser to chrome, default search engines all over to Google. Installed a few apps, and not a crash yet. It is amazingly ugly, but well, it runs and things will change (I hope).

Of course guest tools aren't yet working, but I'm able to use resolution of 1600x1200 without problem.

Good luck.

Not a released OS. Not supported. They're eager to get it working as much as you. No need to start meaningless threads...

I have installed the OS on VirtualBox and it works fine. I read an article about how to install Windows 10 Preview on VirtualBox. The "Version" for the Guest OS seems to be different on devices with different configuration, to me it is "Windows 8" while for some others it is Windows 8.1 ...

I had no problems installing Windows 10 on Vbox. However, when I try to install the additions I get a message to the effect that it doesn't support Windows 10. Anyone get around this?

The link you posted has nothing to do with the guest additions. The guest additions for Windows 10 aren't available yet.

Problem solved. At the first installation attempt there was an error related to EFI which was set to false. I changed it to true and tried installation, resulting in hanging in the boot process. Now I changed back EFI=false and the installation proceeded without any problems.
