Windows 10 guest hangs on boot

My Windows 10 guest hangs on the Windows logo boot screen. The host is a Surface Pro 2 with Windows 8.1 on it. Here's the log, taken a couple minutes after starting the VM: http://pastebin.com/Cv3Qzt8e

Can anyone help?

So you are saying that the Windows 10 review will *not* run in a VDI on a current VirtualBox installed on Windows 7?

I'm using host = Win 7 Ultimate 64. Windows 10 (today's TP) runs fine for me on v4.3.16 vBox. I'm not saying it's worth running, but it does run without errors. Let's see: What else could be of help to know?

- I've only got one setting of interest set: "Enable PAE/Nx"
- am using the 2d/3d options under display (but not using guest-tools since they're not up to date for W10.
- 3072 MB RAM
- 60G vDisk
- Bridged NW

I immediately disabled IE, switched to Chrome, disabled Bing, switched to Google, no problems there.

Upon install, I just took all the easiest options (use entire disk), and oh yeah! For setup: I used windows 8.1 64 bit type OS at start (closest thing to 10 I suppose).

Good luck.

The log I posted probably says it, but here's my setup just to be clear:

Host = Windows 8.1 x64 (device supports hardware virtualization)
Guest = Windows 10 Technical Preview
PAE/NX = true
2D/3D acceleration = true
RAM = 4096MB
Processors = 2
VT-x/AMD-V = true
EFI = true

And let me stop there

Disabling EFI made it magically work! Somehow, it was crashing with error 0x0000005D before enabling EFI, then this error when enabling it, now it works when I disable it again! Weird...

Just made an account here (even though Oracle makes it a pain in the neck) to say that Superstar's advice about disabling EFI worked for me. I had been fighting with it for a half hour, but disabling EFI worked perfectly. Thanks for the help.

I was able to install on a win7 host by selecting 8.1 as the guest and enabling PAE/NX.

Just an FYI to anyone contemplating using VB *on* W10. It doesn't work. "Make sure the kernel module has been loaded successfully." Usual uninstall/reinstall/reboot doesn't help. Yes, I know this isn't that surprising and that W10 is a beta. I thought it worth mentioning, as someone may think of a solution.

Well, just for fun, it works if you accept a lagging mouse pointer.

One thing I encountered: 32 bit iso with windows 8.1 32 bits setting didn't work, had to use all 64 bit (iso) otherwise it won't reboot during installation)

Host: W7 Ultimate 64 bit on i7, 8GB, SSD drive

Guest: 3 cores, 3GB

I read all this post but finally i didn't understand if the new W10 works or not; i have Virtualbox installed in my W8.1 and i am curious to try the W10.

Windows 10 was hanging on boot. Disabling EFI fixed it for me too.

Yes, that should work fine (choose Win8 as your machine template) with the exception of installing extensions, but that's pretty minor.

What I was talking about above is if you had W10 as host, but you don't.
