Windows 10 guest hangs on boot
Re: Windows 10 guest hangs on boot
I have the same problem. Windows 10 hangs on boot from virtual DVD. I run the latest virtualbox on 64-bit Windows 8.1 Enterprise host. I see DVD activity for a while and the cpu time is something like 15 % for a while, but then everything just stops and setup never starts.
Re: Windows 10 guest hangs on boot

Re: Windows 10 guest hangs on boot
I'm on a Windows 7 Ultimate x64 host and I tried all the things mentioned here and more, but none of these things seemed to work for me. If it makes a difference for anyone here; the way I got it to load past the boot logo was to remove the default IDE controller which included the ODD drive that was created for me, add a SATA ODD drive to the SATA controller, then load the ISO into that.
Now I've got the Windows 10 installation screen in front of me, let's see how far I get...

| Edit: : Well I got as far as installing Windows 10 itself. I tried installing Guest Additions after bootup but got an error saying it "cannot be installed on this version of Windows." |
Re: Windows 10 guest hangs on boot
I had problems getting this to install initially, got the 0x0000005D error. Checked settings and for some reason my CD Drive was set up as IDE, my HD as SATA. I changed them both to IDE and it's working fine now.
Re: Windows 10 guest hangs on boot
I am going through the processes of updating a clone of my windows 8.1 guest to the Win 10 technical preview. I will report back if it worked.
Win 7 64 bit host, no luck installing directly in a new machine.
edit: nope, started twice, gets to the end and rolls itself back stating win 10 could not be installed

Re: Windows 10 guest hangs on boot
For what it's worth, I've installed Windows 10 twice without a problem.
First install was on a pre-existing Windows 8.1 (64bit) guest.
Second was a new guest using the Windows 8.1 (64bit) template.
The only change I made to the template was to increase the .vdi size to 40GB and 2 CPUs. I don't think the changes were necessary though.

video memory must be greater than 51MB.
I succeed at 128MB, set by [display]tab of detail.
