problem mounting "a virtual optical disk file..."

Hi everyone.
I recently installed VirtualBox 4.3.16 (the latest version) on a new windows 7 pro 64bit host.
When I try to load a disk image by clicking the "Choose a virtual optical disk file..." button, the VM freezes I have to kill it.
I've un-installed and re-installed VBox several times and the same problem persists.
Any thoughts?

I doubt that it's a VirtualBox problem, which would also explain why reinstalling VBox doesn't help. When I've encountered this kind of problem before, the issue was actually caused by Windows trying to discover neighboring folders which were actually offline, e.g. bluetooth or network devices.

Thanks for replying!
I'm not sure what you mean. Can you suggest any tests I can perform?
I don't use any bluetooth devices or wireless networking...

I didn't mention wireless, and anyway you don't need to be consciously using a feature for the installed drivers to cause a problem. When I saw this symptom before, we were able to see what unusual things running in the tasklist, and experiment with shutting them down. Getting rid of one process cured the problem, and it turned out to be some kind of bluetooth redirector, for some reason monitoring folders as they were opened. That user had no idea he was using bluetooth either - the drivers came preinstalled on the laptop he was using.
