BSOD During Upgrade from Vista to 7 [SOLVED]

Post by Bhajan »

Host:
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit

VirtualBox version:
4.3.17 r96101

Guest Scenario:
Attempting In-place upgrade from Vista Business 32-bit to Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit. The installation goes well and restarts several times, as it should. Just near the end of installation, BSOD occurs with "irql_not_less_or_equal". This is my first post on a forum of this caliber, so please bear with me.

4.3.17 is an unsupported test build. Switch to a supported build such as 4.3.12, provide a new log file, and then we can discuss your problem.

The issue was somehow related to having Guest Additions installed. After removing the Guest Additions from Windows Vista Business 32-bit, the Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit in-place upgrade completed successfully with no issues. This was confirmed by several of my classmates using various stable versions of VirtualBox. Also, previously, I had used VirtualBox 4.3.2-90405 which is a stable build, although a bit outdated.
