Hello,
I have upgraded my computer to windows 7 and some hardware now don't work. In a driver download comment I fount a suggestion to install the virtual box software to make the hardware work with an older os ... here windows XP I have a installation disk of. So I have installed the virtual box software and wanted to boot the installation disk to install XP on this virtual machine as recomended by the former-mentioned comment. But the disk don't boot. Virtual box allways says that it 'could not read from boot medium!' but this is the DVD-drive from host system allready checked and working fine in host environment. What is wrong there?

I have tried to look for older anwers but I didn't find any. If there are some please excuse.

A virtual machine uses virtual CD drives. The virtual CD drive of the VM can be associated with either a host ISO file or a host CD/DVD drive. This is configured in the VM settings | Storage. What configuring did you choose there?

Also, what is the exact wording of the label on the XP setup CD? E.g. perhaps attach a JPEG of it. CDs bundled with old PCs are not necessarily full setup CDs. They may just be so-called recovery CDs.

Also: this entire experiment may be bogus. Virtual machines on and with virtual (simulated) hardware. So what is this host hardware that you want to use in a VM?
