New 2012 install black screen and command prompt?

I just installed windows server 2012 on virtual box. I have a 2nd internal drive where this is housed. When I log in, the screen is black and there is only a command prompt. What am I doing wrong?

I suspect that this has nothing to do with VirtualBox.

If you do not read what it says and leave it at the default setting, Windows Server installs the core version which does not have a GUI. You have to select the GUI option in the installer.
