Windows 8.1 no longer boots. Linux host

I've been regularly using a Windows 8.1 VM for about a month. Today when I booted it up windows installed some updates and then I logged in. I switched to another desktop before login completed and came back a few minutes later to find the session had aborted. I tries booting it back up but it hangs at the boot stage with no error messages. I then cloned the machine to start fresh, same problem. I attached the log from the cloned machine. I'm a novice and am not sure which is the relevant logfile for the original machine. This is on an ArchLinux host running VBox 4.3.16. I can boot to the installation DVD so I worry that its a problem with the vdi.

I notice that the release is self compiled. I'm afraid that means we don't support it. Ditto for the Arch Linux host.

All I see in the log is this :-

There's no problem with the rules, I'm just warning you that your setup is not supported, and therefore we can't assume that it should work.

Can you please elaborate "I notice that the release is self compiled. I'm afraid that means we don't support it. Ditto for the Arch Linux host"
