This error has been going on with my vbox since 4.2
In the dock of mba, when I saved the state and close the window
or quit, vbox closes and then remains in the dock, and try as I might, it will not quit until I manually shutdown the machine by holding the power-button

Re: Vbox Fails to Quit completely
I can't tell which version of OSX you are using but, I seem to remember the behavior you are describing with early versions of Mavericks. It doesn't do that on my Macs since at least 10.9.4. It does take a few seconds for the icon and process to remove itself.
btw, you should be able to force quit an app or process by holding down the option key while right clicking on the icon. Failing that you can open the Activity Monitor app and kill a process there. It's only in extreme situations would you ever need to power off.

Re: Vbox Fails to Quit completely
As i recall, this is related to the depreciation by Apple of StartupItems. These are residual entries therein.
An Uninstall, properly executed by the user, clears up the issue.

Re: Vbox Fails to Quit completely
I uninstall via the uninstall script
in the dmg file
restart the computer
and then install the new vbox
Still doesn't resolve the issue
am I doing something wrong?
