VirtualBox 4.3.16 Guest Window Size

Hey everyone, I'm wondering if anybody else has seen this behaviour and if you could let me know the workaround if one is known ...

I've been using VBox for years and recently been trying to run Win Server 2008 R2 x64, but got had loads of issues with the guest not booting (0x000000C4 error). This was easily resolved by searching forums and in the process I updated VBox from 4.3.12 to 4.3.14, then 4.3.16.

Now every time I start a VM the guest window is reduced to the smallest possible size which makes the guest almost unusable. This also happens every time the guest initiates a mode or resolution change. Each time the guest goes through the boot process I begin resizing the window, then it changes resolution as the desktop appears and returns to the small size, then I have to resize it again. On top of that, if the Autofit Guest option is enabled then it actually resizes the client desktop to 245x52 pixels making the guest OS totally unusable. It's quite annoying to say the least!

This happens with all guest OSes, regardless of the VM configuration.
I have tried removing / reinstalling VBox a number of times and have tried installing 4.3.16 onto a clean build, as well as upgrading & downgrading and all manner of combinations, with all versions between 4.3.12 - 4.3.16, but the result is always the same: 4.3.16 has small windows and the other versions are fine. This presents an issue for me because 4.3.16 is the only one that boots Win Server 2008 R2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry I forgot to mention - main host OS is Win 7 Ultimate x64 running on standard HP Proliant N40L with 16GB. I connect to the host using RDP but I have also tried it without RDP on 5 other computers of varying configuration but all Win 7 x64.

It sure does - it's probably a feature related to 4.3.16.
Oh well, I'll wait for an update ...
