Windows 7 Installation Issue

Post by Lobzilla »

Hello guys. I am experiencing an issue installing/upgrading Virtualbox. What happens is that the installer begins rolling back and then says that it exited prematurely. My issue is similar to some I have seen posted, but after a day's worth of Googling and browsing through these topics I have been unable to find a solution. All of the requested information is provided below and in the attached log file, although if I missed anything or if there is any additional information I can provide to be helpful please let me know.

Virtualbox Version: 4.3.16 (note that I experienced the same issue on 4.3.12, 4.3.14, and the 4.3.15 and 4.3.17 test builds)
Host: Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit, Service Pack 1, 6 GB RAM
Guest: Arch Linx, 64-bit, 2 GB RAM
Guest Log FIle: N/A

After weeks of scouring the internet and forums for solutions, I was forced to have my IT department give me a new computer. The issue was specific to my system and (from what I could tell) had to do with an old version of the MSI driver either getting installed incorrectly or not getting uninstalled correctly. I even tried removing everything relating to Virtualbox from the registry and still could not install a version of Virtualbox newer than 4.10.

All of this being said, if anyone ever does figure out this issue, I'd still be very interested in knowing the cause and the solution. I still have the old system for the rest of the week (i.e. until 10/10/14) if anyone has any ideas/suggestions (which I would still be interested in trying out of curiosity), but after that I believe it will be wiped clean.
