Windows VM no longer restarts using version 4.3.16 r95972

Post by delahn »

After upgrading Virtualbox from 4.3.12 to 4.3.16, my Windows 7 and 8.1 VM's no longer restart automatically when I go to Start -> Restart in windows. When I do click on restart, windows logs out okay but I am presented with a black screen with shades of colours (see attached file) and it just halts there! This now happens to all my Windows VM's

I have updated the VirtualBox Extension Pack to 4.3.16 and the Virtual Guest CD on the VM's but still the same issue.

Is it easy to fix this?

I'm not familiar with the problem, so I doubt anyone can be sure of an easy fix.

First, you should raise a BugTracker ticket and report the problem.

Second, I would make sure my GAs are up to date - the extension pack you mention is not relevant to guest graphics.

Third, I would try disabling 3D acceleration.

Finally, I would try downgrading to 4.3.12.

Anything you learn from the above should be put in the bug ticket.

If you need to continue this conversation then provide a VM log file - in fact you'll need one for your bug ticket to be taken seriously. Make sure it's a complete log file (not grabbed from a still running VM), and make sure the log file captures a "problem" session.

To grab a log file, reproduce the problem and then shut down (not suspend) the VM, right click VM, select "Show Log", save "VBox.log" (only) to a file, zip that file, attach the zip here.
