Can't install windows on VB

Post by Elad »

Hi,
I'm having trouble installing Windows 8 (64) on VirtualBox.
When I specify the driver where the CD is I see the Windows logo and just when the installation should start I get a pop-up with a "critical error"

I've attached the log file and the screenshot.
This is the first time i'm dealing with a virtual machine so I really don't know if i'm doing anything wrong
Thanks in advance!

You're allocating 2048MB+128MB RAM, out of 1532MB available on your host. That's a no-no. Free up some host RAM by shutting down unnecessary apps. Consider installing more RAM on your host. A short term workaround would be to reduce the RAM allocation of this guest to 1024MB, with 64MB VRAM.

Also, is this really a Win8 VM, or is it Win8.1? If it's actually the latter then you must use the proper Win8.1 template in the "OS version" guest setting.

Thanks mpack!
That did the trick.
Now I have another, smaller issue - I want to copy a file from my desktop to a folder on the virtual machine.
I enabled both Clipboard and drag & drop sharing on the settings (General -> Advanced) but it still won't allow any file transfers.
How can I make it work?

Drag and drop isn't supported to Windows guests, and the clipboard can't be used to copy files - only "live" text and graphics. To copy files to/from a VM you should install the Guest Additions (see user manual), and then configure shared folders in the VM settings.
