Where is stuff stored on the host

Post by relpek45 »

Hello
New to virtualbox. I loaded an xp virtual box and have been putting xp games on it. This is taking place on my windows 7 64 bit computer. Where are the games stored on my win 7 computer? I install them on the virtual box xp but where would this data be on the host? Which files in general? Thanks

Your question suggests that you have not grasped quite what a virtual machine is. It is a complete PC working as software within the host.

Part of this PC-in-software is the virtual machine's hard disk. On the host this takes the form of a single file. (By default it will be a *.vdi file, stored in your user area on the host's hard disk. Do not touch it from the host until you know what you are doing, and then don't do more than copy it from one place to another.)

All the files on your guest are stored as part of this vdi file, just as files on a physical machine are stored on a physical hard disk. They are not stored elsewhere on the host.
