4.3.16 Cannot open host device for read/write access

Post by stittdba »

After upgrading from 4.3.15 to 4.3.16, my Windows 8.1 Pro guest will not start. My host is also running Windows 8.1. The following error message is received when I map my CD/DVD (G:) drive on my host to the guest. Whether Passthrough is checked or not, the guest will not start. However, if I unmap the host drive from the guest, the guest will successfully start.

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine DVDFAB01.

Cannot open host device 'G:' for read/write access. Check the permissions of that device (VERR_ACCESS_DENIED).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole {8ab7c520-2442-4b66-8d74-4ff1e195d2b6}

Does anyone know of a different way to access the host drive within the guest? Or another work-around?

If you're just seeing this problem with 4.3.16 (and reverting to let's say 4.3.12 you don't), then please submit this in the Discuss the 4.3.16 release thread. That's your best chance of some of the developers noticing it...
