Oracle VM Inaccessible outside of Host with Bridged Adapter

Post by Amy »

Let me preempt by saying I have very little experience with networking and VM's.

I have installed Oracle VM 4.3.14 with the PeopleSoft image .008. The virtual box is running and I can access PeopleSoft within the host. When I installed Oracle VM the first time, I did a host only. The second time, I deleted the PeopleSoft image and re-imported it. Before starting it, I selected the Bridged Adapter and my adapter on the host.

I have two adapters; 1) Ethernet; Domain adapter and 2) Virtual Box Host only Network

The IP address using ifconfig on the virtual box shows the ip address 172.24.20.xx8 that my network team gave me to use as a static ip for the virtual box; I used this ip when installing the image. The Ethernet adapter has it's own static ip in same range 172.24.20.xx2. The Virtual Box Host Only Network adapter has an ip of 192.168.56.1

I can access PeopleSoft from within the host (windows server 2012) but not outside the host.

What am I doing wrong? I can ping the virtual box ip address 172.24.20.xx8 outside of the host but cannot bring up the application. I'm wondering if I need to remove the Virtual Box Host Only adapter and start again? Should this be a bridged adapter or is this standard on the VM even though I selected bridged when installing the image? I do have Virtual Box Bridged Networking Driver selected on the Ethernet adapter.

Thank you for the help.

I would check with your IT department to see if they need to do something on their end. Normally if they are worth their salt they will restrict this kind of behavior and only allow it when required and asked.

Thank you! I was so sure that it was my inexperience but it was not. An update was done to the Host A record adding the ip of the VM and it works. (We had to alias the domain name as web logic is limited to 30 characters for a fully qualified domain name)
