Check the firewall settings on your two guests because by default pings are not allowed. Also there is no telnet server to telnet to.

Sorry, I forget to mention about that.

Firewall is disabled on both VMS. I also enabled telnet client and server on both so I can telnet. I can telnet to localhost <port> but not on remote. I have set the default gateway on both. Also, I can ping from VMs to my host laptop and vice versa but not between two VMs.

Interestingly enough, I can telnet from my laptop to both vms.

So, you're saying that you cannot ping or telnet between your two VMs?

I spent quite some time building two new fresh Win7 VMs to try it out. Default settings all the way, Work Network, enabled telnet client and server, disabled firewalls. Important step: Enable and start the Telnet server.

They work as expected. They can ping each other, telnet to each other and my host can ping and telnet to both of them. Have you done something unusual? Honestly...

PS. I'll keep the two VMs around for some time more in case you need more help.

Thanks for the reply and doing research for me. I carefully looked at my configuration. I am not great on network, or Virtualbox, but am doing it by reading.

the 2nd VM was created by importing the ( export of the 1st VM).. they have valid ips, their host name is changed.

Windows IP Configuration( host)

I have enabled telnet server and client, and I can telnet localhost 9999. Also, as I said earlier, I can ping /telnet to and from my guest laptop ( again running windows 7)

I am really stock at this point. I can delete and recreate fresh VMs but I want to debug ( but not much idea what to do).

the network adapter is bridged adapter on both. they are getting valid ip ( also getting changed)
what else can I check ?

thanks
Jeevan

Rootman wrote:The VMs should be like any other physical PCs on the network. You didn't by chance just COPY the VM and keep the NIC settings did you? If so then the MAC addresses are likely duped which means your network is trying to hand out the same IP to both, last one up gets the IP. Windows is good about bitching about this though and you should of noticed.

Both VMs have valid IPs and can ping the host when BOTH are running? They can ping something on the internet at the same time?
Yes, I have created the 2nd VM from the VM ( by exporting and importing) but I have changed the hostname, defaultgateway so they are gelignite valid ip. please refer my answer to previous post.

you are also right that both VMs have same mc address though the ip and hostname are different. when I tried to change the mac address,

C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox>vboxmanage modifyvm "Win64_Tibco_1" --macaddress "00-1E-68-35-FF-91"

Got an error. This is the error message.
VBoxManage.exe: error: --macaddress: RTGetOpt: Command line option needs an index.

Appreciate any help

UPDATE: FIXED WITH changing the mac address.

@Rootman
Nice thinking...

@jeevan
Can I know delete the two test VMs? If so, change the subject to "[Solved} i can not..."

And please answer the question that I originally had: "Have you done something unusual? Honestly..."

Cause when you are hiding facts (cloning) and I'm spending hours trying to solve your problem and you don't even acknowledge it, then the next time you have a problem, guess what... I will not be acknowledging your cry for help.

No. As i sad, in another post, I build the 2nd VM from 2st vm.
