SAS limitations

I've been playing around with windows server 2012 clustering and it seems that using a vdi as a sas drive doesn't support the required command set.

The message from the cluster validation says: Disk partition style is GPT. Disk type is BASIC. The required inquiry data (SCSI page 83h VPD descriptor) was reported as not being supported.

Is this a vbox limitation or have i done something dumb?

I set up another vm as an iscsi target which works fine. I added a plain scsi controller and a drive which hasn't showed up i'm guessing i would need to find drivers for that somewhere.

Mildly interesting, but how does it relate to VirtualBox? What is happening here that would not happen on physical hardware?

I think, UncleSlug, that you're asking if Virtualbox doesn't support using a vdi file in the SAS arrangement you're wanting, right? Good question. It's possible that there is some limitation that exists, but unfortunately I haven't seen much discussion of SAS on the forum to know what to say or where to look.

I'd suggest asking the developers on their mailing list (see https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Community). Try to give them as much info about what you're trying to set up as you can, and see what they might say. (Also please remember they're putting out a few fires right now with the new security stuff, so it may take a bit for them to get back to your question.)
