Screen Resolution

Post by coopdegrace »

Hi All,

I am relatively new to VMs. I was hoping someone could help me with an issue I am having with screen resolution.

I was originally running my VMs on windows 7 with no issue, I have recently updated my laptop running windows 8. When I open my VMs on the new laptop the resolution is too high making the screen hard to read (image attached). I have installed guest additions and tried playing with the screen resolutions but with no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

How you change the display size is actually a function of the guest OS, and you do it the same way you would on any other PC. If the GAs are already installed then the VirtualBox side is already taken care of. Just find Win8's display customization dialog and change the size. I'm not a Win8 user, but when I did it for a friend ISTR it wasn't hard to find.

If your problem is reading what is on the screen, then it is not the display size and resolution that you need to change. With Win 7, if you go to "Screen Resolution", then there is an option "Make text and other items larger or smaller". Try changing this. Note that the effect within other programs will depend on those programs themselves, but most major ones allow you to zoom to whatever you wish.

I have the exact opposite problem. I just installed VirtualBox 4.3.12 and have not been able to resize the VM display size larger than the default 640x480. I'm running an Nvidia display with dual 28" VDI monitors and have Ubuntu installed.

Have you installed the guest additions ( in the guest )?
