I'm using Windows 8.1 Update 1 on Asus N550JV laptop.
It seems that VirtualBox network driver (or networking stuff, I dont know exactly) makes RasMan (Remote Access Connection Manager) service to fail to start with error code 20030 and 7023 (with error message that needed files are missing). Consequence is, VPN & Dial Up stopped working. WAN miniports in Device Manager also show yellow exclamation.
VirtualBox version I had tried that made RasMan to fail are 4.3.12, 4.3.14, even 4.3.15.95713.
I couldn't fix it, but then only re-install by Upgrade can fix RasMan to start working again.
But unfortunately, it didn't solve the main problem. VirtualBox network driver is missing (VirtualBox Host-only adapter and infamous Unidentified Network are gone). Every time VirtualBox start, Program Compatibility Assistant window pops up on and says it need to be reinstalled. I need Host-only adapter to get it working in my Ubuntu guest.
I googled and found some others also experienced the same thing, RasMan stopped working after VirtualBox installed, either they uninstall VirtualBox and switch to other VM or live without VPN/Dial Up anymore.
Anyone have any idea to solve this? I really need to get it working asap for my thesis.
Thanks for any help.
RasMan not working (VPN & Dial Up) on Windows 8.1
Re: RasMan not working (VPN & Dial Up) on Windows 8.1
No one experienced this or try to suggest anything, please?
My laptop have Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter (VER1000287), Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller (VER802109092013), Qualcomm Atheros AR3012 Bluetooth 4.0+HS (VER801306). I already tried re-install Atheros Wireless Network drivers from Windows Update and Asus drivers.
After VirtualBox installation, I can confirm that windows is still be able to connect to VPN, but after system restart (i guess after loading drivers), windows no longer be able to connect to VPN.

I have the same problem. Can't VPN on Windows 8.1 on an Asus laptop after installing VirtualBox. Even un-installing hasn't helped.
There must be a solution to this problem surely? I've done a lot of Googling without success.

The only thing which can cause that sort of problem is a misbehaving NIC driver in the host OS. It is probably significant that you are using similar hardware. It can only be fixed by solving the driver problem in the host OS.

I was able to fix it permanently by running a Microsoft FixIt - but for the life of me I can no longer find the page I downloaded it from. So you might have to do a bit of Googling for the error to find it.
Alternatively, have a look at the following Spiceworks page which explains how to remove all ports and then re-install them - I've not tried it myself, but it might help:
http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/ ... -miniports
As I say, it's all working fine for me after running the FixIt. I had to run it a couple of times to make sure it re-installed all the ports, but then it worked.

I don't know what browser you're using, but most of them have a "Downloads" window that allows you to retrieve the link of the downloaded file and/or the page where you download it from.Oliver Kinne wrote:I can no longer find the page I downloaded it from
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

There is also browsing history. So unless you clear your web and downloads history you should be able to find it.Oliver Kinne wrote:I can no longer find the page I downloaded it from

I have found solution at microsoft forums (I cannot post urls, sorry!)
For each "WAN MINIPORT" in the "Device Manager -> Network adapter" marked with the yellow sign, I followed instruction from microsoft kb2871372 :
Try to connect (fail)
Open Device Manager.
On the View menu, click Show hidden devices.
Goto network adapters
Right-click the yellow WAN miniport devices, and then click Update Driver Software.
Click Browse my computer for driver software.
Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
Clear the Show compatible hardware check box.
In the column on the left side, select Microsoft, and in the column on the right side, select Microsoft KM-TEST Loopback Adapter.
In the Update Driver Warning dialog box, click Yes to continue installing this driver.
After the driver is installed, right-click the device, and then click Uninstall.
After the device is uninstalled, right-click the computer name in Device Manager, and then click Scan for hardware changes.
net stop rasman
net start rasman
net stop rasauto
net start rasauto

@Orutra, thank you, this fixes my VPN (RasMan)! But this only works after I uninstalled Virtualbox (4.2.30).
Is there a bug report or is this a known issue? I couldn't find it.
