autocad

installed autocad in guest os win xp under 1.5.6 vbox on host os ubuntu 7.10. it does not run.

any ideas?

Autocad in a VM? Not a good Idea. Better use dual boot for such program monsters.

One could argue that it's fine to run "monster" programs in VM.

But as I think this one requires Direct3D or OpenGL support, it won't naturally work in VirtualBox.

And dont ask for other VMs: Same problem with every product.

What version of AutoCad is it? I have run Acad 2000i under Vbox and have run Acad 2000i to 2009 under Vmware. They run very well. I did try to install ver.20009 in Vbox and even though it installs it does not run. Must be because of Direct3D.

have managed to run autocad 2004 with virtualbox 2.x.x on ubuntu 8.04 onwards but machine specs are at least 2ghz ram so sharing half of it.
