same vm only starts on one computer

Scratching my head.

I have two computers, iMac and MBA, both Mavericks 10.9.4 with VB 4.3.14 with its extPack
I created Mavericks VM on the iMac. The vm works normally.
I copied the vm, the entire folder, to the MBA.
When I attempt to start up the vm on the MBA, vm stops/hangs part way.

Attached
logs from both computers for the vm; creating/initializing/installing OSX

Not attached
video_capture from both computers for the vm, showing the OSX hang on the MBA.
It appears that the forum will not accept the .webm files, zipped or raw.

I'm curious about one thing in the logs.

the iMac says this:

File system of '/Volumes/Sun-xVM/VBox VMs/OSX-Tester/x-osx-t11.vdi' is hfs

and the MBA says this:

File system of '/Users/CBMcK/Virtualbox_VMs/OSX Tester/x-osxT12.vmdk' is hfs

How did the VM change from a VDI to a VMDK when all you did was copy it from one Mac to the other?

The file type of virtual hard drive makes no difference. On MBA, fails

You may also want to edit this part.

That explains how I encountered this oddity.

Now 10.10.3 Yosemite and VBox V4.3.28

Still can not create an OS X virtual machine on MBA

My two cents…
As I'm sure you've seen Apple over the years has released patches to OSX for very specific models. The same with firmware updates. It may be some subtle difference between your iMac and your MBA that allows a guest to run on one and not the other. I think it would be very difficult to track down.

Just to add to the mysteries of running OSX guests in VirtualBox. No matter what I did I couldn't get OSX 10.5 to install as a guest on my iMac. Changing the CPU ID and Model ID should have worked. On the other hand, I shouldn't have been able to install 10.6 without changing both the CPU ID and the Model ID. But changing just the CPU ID was enough.

I really don't care to try and run OSX guests in VirtualBox which is the sole reason I have VMWare Fusion.

I forgot to add, if you were willing to pay me $10,000,000 or maybe even $10 I can try installing OSX as a guest on my MBA. I've never tried before and I'm sure it will be a pain. :)
