VM wont start: VERR_SUPDRV_APIPORT_OPEN_ERROR

Hi,

I've googled this error to no avail and I've looked on these forums but can't find an answer. Has anyone seen this before?
I had set up a VM which worked perfectly one day and failed to start the next.

MessageBox title: Error In supR3HardenedWinReSpawn
Message:
NtCreateFile(\Device\VBoxDrvStub) failed:
VERR_SUPDRV_APIPORT_OPEN_ERROR (rcNt=0xe986f165)
(rc=-3739)

Make sure the kernel module has been loaded successfully.

I'm running VBox v4.3.14 r95030 on Windows 7 32bit.
The error occurs irrespective of which target VM OS I choose.
It appears that no log entries are written. Happy to supply any further useful info if I can.
