Host: Mac OS X Mavericks, Virtual Box 4.3.14
Guests: Mac OS X Mavericks, Oracle Linux 7 kernel version 3.8.13-44.el7uek.x86_64, Oracle Solaris 11.2. guest additions install where available.
Network setup for all: Bridged network, en1(wi-fi) promiscuous mode Allow-All
The Mac OS X and Linux guests cannot see multi-cast packets. Well, they see a few of them, very few coming from any ip on the network including the host.
The Solaris guest can see all broadcasts just fine.
This causes many problems with mDNS lookups, file sharing, etc being unavailable. I haven't seen any bug reports or other board posts on the issue. Has anyone else seen this problem or do I just have something configured poorly.
guests cannot see multicast broadcasts
Re: guests cannot see multicast broadcasts
Just an update
Guest OpenBSD 5.5, no guest additions, bridged network, promiscuous mode all
OpenBSD Does see all broadcasts.
Data collected on all platforms with:
tcpdump 'ip[16] >= 224'
All platforms set to adapter type: IntelPRO/1000 MTDesktop (82540EM)
Oddly, after ^C ing the tcpdump on the OpenBSD Guest my host lost connection to the WiFi network, the network was joined, but it could not get an IP address, issue resolved when I shutdown the OpenBSD guest.
Update #2, a few hours later, OSX crashed, on reboot previous shutdown cause -128. Wi-Fi was unstable and kept resetting. Had to shutdown (pulled the plug as well) and restarted then the network was stable. Bad network driver issue in vbox.
Also none of the guest can see any broadcasts when network set to NAT mode.
Network oddness all around. Can anyone replicate this behavior?
