GUI doesn't work after upgrading to 64 bit system

Post by ankutsa »

Hi

Until now I was using Windows 7 32 bit on a computer with a NVidia card and everything was ok.
My new computer has an Intel 4400 video card and VirtualBox shows a black screen. I tried to toggle 2D and 3D acceleration options but nothing happens :(

What's worse is that after upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit, GUI doesn't open at all. I get an error saying "Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Ubuntu."
The VBoxStartup.log ends with:

Code: Select all

Do you know what could be the issue? I tried disabling antivirus, reinstalling VirtualBox...

The good thing is that in headless mode it works:

Code: Select all

VBoxManage.exe startvm Ubuntu --type "headless"
But I'd like to see the GUI too :P

Try downgrading to 4.3.12, or read the "4.3.14 conflicts with anti-virus" discussion at the top of this forum.

Downgrading to 4.3.12 fixed it, both the error and the black screen. Thanks!

Regarding the latest version, in my case it's not the antivirus bc I disabled it and the same happens.
I also tried 4.3.15 build 95713 and it doesn't work either.

The problem is not restricted to anti-virus, it applies to any application that pulls AV-type stunts. AV is just a label, not an entirely separate software universe.
