Incorrect number of CPUs detected

Post by SGorodskoy »

Hello!

I just downloaded Virtual Box 4.3.14 r95030 and ran into a problem: it allows setting maximum of 2 CPU per virual machine (even that with error "Invalid setting detected").

I have i7-4930K processor (6 cores) with 16GB RAM on Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition Server x64. MSInfo32/Taskmanager shows 12 CPU cores.

I also tried few older versions of Virtual Box (4.2 and older), but they fail to even start correctly.

Please advice where should i look.

Code: Select all

I assume you are wanting to install the guest as an x86 with SMP. You will need ioapic enabled for this to happen.

But I also see the cpu test does not detect your processor properly, which may be the real issue. You will need to post a ticket at bugtracker and attach this log file and give the explanation of what it should be and what you actually have.

Note: it is not uncommon that the cpu test does not match exactly but in this case I believe it is an issue.

I tried creating different machine types: x86/x64, linux/windows, xp/2012 etc, so i am sure that the problem is in CPU test.
