BSOD on install

Post by richardvdb »

When I try to install virtualbox on my windows 7 host with USB Support and Networking I get an error and the install performs a rollback, this is a part of the MSI log:

Code: Select all

DIFXAPP: INFO: Installing INF file 'C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\drivers\USB\device\VBoxUSB.inf' (Plug and Play).

English translation of dutch messages in the log:
De stijl van het INF-bestand verschilt van het aangevraagde --> The style of the INF-file is different than the requested
Het volume voor een bestand is extern dusdanig gewijzigd dat het geopende bestand niet langer geldig is. --> The volume for the file has been externally changed in a way that the opened file is no longer valid

Since I don't actually need the USB Support but do need the networking, I've only selected those options and deselected USB, which gives me a BSOD. The following is the last part of the MSI log that was created:

Code: Select all

I've tried the following two installers:
VirtualBox-4.3.15-95286-Win
VirtualBox-4.3.14-95030-Win

Specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 - X64
Intel Core i7-4829K CPU @ 3.70 GHz
Network adapter: Intel 82579V Gigabit

Update 2014-08-21:
Tried removing all files and registry keys that contain vbox or virtualbox,
Tried VirtualBox-4.3.12-93733-Win

If I need to provide any more information that may help solve this problem please let me know.

Kind regards, Richard

Het volume voor een bestand is extern dusdanig gewijzigd dat het geopende bestand niet langer geldig is.
Is this saying that you unplugged the drive before installation was complete? I'm hard pressed to think of what else it could mean.

Roughly translated it says:
The volume for the file has been externally changed in a way that the opened file is no longer valid

The other dutch error "De stijl van het INF-bestand verschilt van het aangevraagde" means:
The style of the INF-file is different than the requested
