I am running the windows 7 VM on Virtualbox and I get random blue screen. This time it gave me following error:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: ntoskrnl.exe

DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen,
restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow
these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer
for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware
or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart
your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then
select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x0000009f (0x0000000000000003, 0xfffffa80045a6680, 0xfffff8000456e518,

*** ntoskrnl.exe - Address 0xfffff80002ec2b80 base at 0xfffff80002e4d000 DateStamp

I have guest edition 4.2.4 installed on it. Not able to under stand why its getting BSOD.

Please help.

Could be anything. " ntoskrnl.exe " is part of Windows, and not likely the real file that caused the blue-screen. Nothing to say if Virtualbox did it either, from the BSOD details. You can get a program from Microsoft to dig deeper into the BSOD, or search the web for " STOP: 0x0000009f "

Information about the VM would be nice too. For example, was it created from scratch from a setup DVD, or was this a P2V project? Has this VM ever previously worked as a VBox VM, and if so, what changed? And, a VM log file wouldn't go amiss either.

I had something like this happen with my Win7 VM although the problem was REFERENCE_BY_POINTER. It would blue screen within minutes of booting. Restoring to (several) previous recovery points didn't work.

In my case the cure was to re-install the Guest Additions. It's been stable ever since.

0x9F is something to do with selecting a power saving mode in a device driver. Since most VM device drivers are native to the OS (VBox provides the hardware, not the drivers), that implies a non-native driver, hence my question whether this is a P2V project. Yes, it could be the GAs, but I doubt it in this case - where are everyone else's reports of this issue?
