I created a VDI to run Linux and allocated 10 GB on the hard drive. The .iso I used didn't function so I 'removed' the VDI and wanted to reinstall a new .iso.
Anyway, I removed the virtual machine but I have not got back the the 10GB I had allocated to it
Im running Os X 10.9.4.
I have read several of the other users problems with this issue but nothing in them has helped me. I know it wasn't a time machine issue as I haven't backed up - I also turned time machine off just in case and rebooted but the space is still missing.
I've also searched for files between 8-10 GB and it does not appear.
I used terminal and made all hidden files visible and that doesn't help either --- there doesn't seem to be a file ID associated with the 10GB that was reserved for the virtual machine,
I have no idea what to try next ... Ive spent hours trying to work out why the space still appears to be missing.
Would appreciate any suggestions to fix this ? Any disk scanning software etc etc that would show where this missing 10GB is and how to get my OS to release it so I can try again with a new iso
Any suggestion much appreciated.
Thanks!

Unless you selected Fixed Disk when you created the Guest it should be much smaller than 10GB or even 5GB. You could try OmniDiskSweeper or Grand Perspective to find the file.
