[Solved] USB support

My connection to USB devices in host has stopped.

Host: Ubuntu 13.04
Guest: Windows 7
Laptop: Asus Zenbook

USB was working then just stopped. Extesion pack and guest additions are installed. 'Enable USB Controler'l and 'Enable USB 2.0 (EHCI) Controller' both checked.

I have tried everything I can think of to get it back, removed VirtualBox 4.3.14 and re-installed, uninstalled again ad went back to 4.3.10. added a new machine and re-installed windows 7. All to no avail.

The Asus Zenbook has no internal DVD player so I use ans External USB one. This was used to install Windows, so VirtualBox can access the Host's USB, but not once the OS is installed.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The version of VirtualBox and the ExtPack must match.
Make sure your user name is in the vboxusers group on the host and that you have rebooted.

You can test all of these with the following commands in the host terminal
  • 1) VBoxManage -v

    2) VBoxManage list extpacks

    3) id

Hi, thanks for reply.

OK, it would appear that the usergroup, of which I am the only member, made a unilateral decision to eject me from the group. That is the obne thing that I did not think of checking, because it never occured to me that I could be removed from the group!

I now have access to USB support, but, even though each device appears in the list, Windows now says it does not recognise any of them! Checking extension packs installed showed that I have both 4.3.10 and 4,3.14 installed, could this be the cause? If so, what is the Terminal command for VBoxManage to remove extension pack 4.3,14 (I am running VBox version 4.3.10 now)?
