Display Resolution Question

Post by saberman »

Host: Windows 8.1 x64 on a Surface Pro 3 512GB machine
Guest: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Monitor: ASUS VK266 via a KVM switch. Connection to the KVM swtich from the host is via a VGA adapter. Connection between the KVM switch and the monitor is a VGA cable.
VB: 4.3.12

When the guest was hosted on a Surface Pro 2 512GB I would set the video to external monitor only and with a resolution of 1920x120- on the host and the guest would have the same resolution.

Running on the Surface Pro 3 512GB I set the host resolution to 1920x1200 but the guest reports a resolution of 2880x1800 and the items on the screen appear to be at that resolution in full screen mode. I don't understand what is happening as the specification for the monitor have a top resolution of 1920x1200 yet it appears to be displaying 2880x1800.

The specifications for the Surface Pro 3 list a resolution of 2160x1440.

The Screen Resolution page has the display as Gener Non-PnP on VirtualBox Graphics Adapter.

How is the guest managing to display at 2880x1800?

I had to reboot the guest. It came back with a resolution ot 1920x1200. I cannot find anyway to make it higher.

Is there a setting in VirtualBox that allows me to specify maximum resolution for guests?

Hit another problem. With the host only displaying on its built in screen which is 2160x1440 I started the guest. The maximum resolution available is 1440xsomething (don't remember exact value).

I cannot get the guest to go to 2160x1440 in full screen mode.

Is there a way to specify the virutal display's resolution instead of letting VirtualBox guess at them?
