Recognizing the PS3 Eye as a webcam

I am trying to use the usb passthrough features of the extensions pack in VirtualBox 4.3.14 for getting access to a usb webcam, the Sony Playstation PS3 Eye. I am running windows 8 as the host and ubuntu 14.04LTS 32-bit as the guest. The drivers for the PS3 eye come with Ubuntu 14.04. I have the extensions pack installed (same version as VBox), and the EHCI turned on. I have the ps3 plugged into my host machine before starting up the guest. The ps3 is recognized by VBox as a usb device, but not additionally as a webcam. When I run guvcview I can see all the correct potential settings for the ps3 camera, but the video is blank. The ps3 does not use compressed frames, so the image quality is known to be great, however it does use isochronous transfers and uses up most (up to 66%) of the bandwidth of the usb controller. Is this too much to handle for the VirtualBox extension pack implementation of isochronous transfers? Or is there something I need to do to get the ps3 recognized as a webcam instead of just a usb device?
