[solved] USB 2.0 devices not visible in Linux guest

Post by Nowers »

Hello,

I'm running Virtualbox 4.3.12 on Windows 7 x64. Guest OS is Ubuntu 14.04. Both Guest Additions and Extension pack are installed. However, USB devices passthrough does not work. USB device appears to be connected (it's checked in VB USB device list), but the guest OS doesn't recognize it (see screenshot).

I have tried this solution: forums . virtualbox . org / viewtopic.php?p=176270#p176270 . I had USB sniffing software installed, so UpperFilters registry key was present; I have deleted these keys and removed the mentioned software.

The attached log file was created with the following conditions:
— no USB filters used
— I was trying to connect an USB 2.0 device (USB flash drive)

How can I solve this problem?

Thank you.

For me this problem persisted even after upgrading the software versions to match. On my machine the VBox had problems with the USB drive because it was connected to a USB3.0 port and even if my harddrive was 3.0 capable, VBox didn't know how to manage that.

So I simply coneected the drive to a USB2.0 port and now it works.

VirtualBox v5 added support for USB3 ports (and devices). Of course the guest OS has to be recent enough to support it too.
