The fastest ( aside from the default Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop ) would be the VirtIO adapter (Oracle VM Windows Paravirtual (PV) Drivers) but your guest will not have drivers for this. You would need to install them first and can be found at the following location: http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/v ... 66470.html
hmmm, Hi Perry, I am running both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 guests and I've never installed the above mentioned drivers. And I get 83Mbps DLs and 72Mbps ULs with the default adaptor. My ISP is 75/75 Mbps.
Something else must be going on.

Didn't say the default drivers/adapter wouldn't work I said the fastest is the VirtIO. Give it a try and see what I mean. I typically get twice the speed on the Internet and over a GB locally.

Yes, I know you didn't. I'm not sure how I can get double the speed I'm subscribed for but I'm willing to try.

I updated my post with the results from a guest to my DEV unit.
Just because you have a large pipe the source usually throttles so the throughput from the Internet will vary a lot. My connection is 100mb/sec from the provider but most of the time I rarely see over 2mb/sec downloading large files, unless I FTP to someone I know that does not throttle.

I see. All my Macs, iPads, VMs average 83/71 Mbps, and as I mentioned, my ISP is 75/75. My internet speed doesn't vary more than half a percent normally.
As far as the drivers, I'm going to have to wait until my Linux box is turned on.

IME, if Windows guests have slow network connections then one of a few things is wrong :-
The user has unrealistic expectations. To be fair this usually isn't the problem.
Bad network config. For example, configured for the wrong workgroup (lot's of retries, or neighborhood discovery takes a long time).
Some external cause is at play. I.e. some process is hogging CPU and/or network bandwidth. Windows or Office update are the most popular choices here. Or newly install AV downloading a new database. Something of that nature. A look at the guest tasklist might reveal something.

On my mac I am getting just about 80/80 and on my windows running chrome I am only getting about 20/20. Looking for any advice. Thank you!
Did you see any improvement in your guest's internet speed?
I meant to ask you, how are you getting your speed results for your Mac and your guest? Are you using speedtest.net? and if you are, are you using the same server on both?
