Windows 8 Guest internet slow...
Hello I am running Mavericks on my machine and windows 8 on my virtual box. What would cause my internet to run much slower on my windows virtual machine than on my mac? On my mac I am getting just about 80/80 and on my windows running chrome I am only getting about 20/20. Looking for any advice. Thank you!

Re: Windows 8 Guest internet slow...
Every guest I run including Windows 8.1, have close to the identical results as I get on my Macs.honeybooboo wrote:Hello I am running Mavericks on my machine and windows 8 on my virtual box. Are you running an anti-virus program with real time protection on your W8 guest? If so try disabling it temporarily and see if that helps. You might also check to see if Windows update is running in the background.

Moving to "Windows Guests" - and deleting the cross-post there.

Well, you didn't send a complete log but, you should install the extension pack and the guest additions into your Windows 8 guest.honeybooboo wrote:I hope this works.

Okay I will try that! When I click on install guest additions it doesn't activate anything in my guest. Does that mean it is already installed?

Re: Windows 8 Guest internet slow...
you do know VirtualBox came with a user manual explaining most if not all of your questions?honeybooboo wrote:Okay I will try that! When I click on install guest additions it doesn't activate anything in my guest. Does that mean it is already installed?
That being said, once you mount the guest additions .iso, there will be a VirtualBox CD that shows up in the side pane of the Windows file explorer side pane. Double click on it and follow the prompts.

Re: Windows 8 Guest internet slow...
Sorry and thank you for your answers. I attempted to read the manual but I couldn't really find the answer. My biggest question is really about my interenet speed. I combed through the manual and didn't see anything about that. I am sure for most of you these might seem like really stupid questions and for this I apologize. If I am posting in the wrong place for support also please let me know. I am just looking for some guidance and I am not very technologically savvy. Maybe there are some settings that I am overlooking. I tried to find answers online and came up empty handed. I tried changing the network settings in my virtual box and that didn't make much of a difference.

Adding guest additions is in Chapter 4 I believe. But, you need to install the extension pack and the guest additions to see if that's the issue with your internet speed.honeybooboo wrote:Sorry and thank you for your answers. nope: not chapter 4

Re: Windows 8 Guest internet slow...
No need to apologize, your questions aren't stupid, and you are in the right place.
Your network setting should be set to the default. Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (NAT)
You didn't mention if you were running an anti-virus program in your Windows guest.

Re: Windows 8 Guest internet slow...
While the Extension Pack and Guest additions will add additional functionality for the guest it really has nothing to do with the network.
The fastest ( aside from the default Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop ) would be the VirtIO adapter (Oracle VM Windows Paravirtual (PV) Drivers) but your guest will not have drivers for this. You would need to install them first and can be found at the following location: http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/v ... 66470.html

Not running antivirus. I tried tinckering with settings and it doesn't do anything. I tried all of the drivers only 2 of them gave me an internet connection.
